Overview to infrared laboratory
Bruker IFS 120 HR Fourier tranform
spectrometer is hearth of the instrument. It has been
provided with two absorption cells biult in Oulu by the
workshop of the department.
Most important data for the spectrometer:
- The very best resolutio
due to the maximum optical path
difference: 0.00085 cm-1
- The best instrumental resolutio
in practise: 0.00125 cm-1
(aperture broadening included
- Possible working range 50 - 15792 cm-1 (200-0.632
mm)
- Usable optical components limit
the working range to 50-6300 cm-1 (200- 1.59 mm)
- In the range 50-800 cm-1
a bolometer at 1.4-1.8 K:n
made by Infrared Laboratories Inc.
(USA)
- In the wavenumber range 800-2000 cm-1
an MCT
detector (MCT =
mercury-cadmium-telluride)
is used. In the shorter
wavelelnght range InSb (indium-antimone)
detectors are used. MCT and
InSb detectors have been made by Infrared Associates
Inc.
- Internal precission < 0.000010 cm-1.
In good conditions can be as high.
However, usually worse.
Two
White-type multi-reflection cells made by the
Workshop of the Departmen can be utilized in the
measurements. In the smaller (smaller figure)
optimized cell
absosrption path lenght can be 3.2 - 41.6 m.
The volyme is 20 l.
It is provided with gold
mirrors. The mantle is
stainless steel. The cell is controlled with a HeNe
laser.
- in the bigger cell the maximum
absortion path lenght is 200 m.
The volymen is as high as 250 l.
Therefore it not practical for exepnsive samples.
This cell is also provided with gold
mirrors. It is controlled by a HeNe laser and
alignment is motorized.
